Frequently asked questions

What makes a good alt text?
Describe what the image conveys in context, in roughly 125 characters or fewer, without starting with "image of" or "picture of". Include a keyword only when it accurately describes the visual.
Should decorative images have alt text?
No. Purely decorative images should use alt="" so screen readers skip them. Leaving the alt attribute off entirely is worse because assistive tech may then announce the file name.
Does alt text affect image SEO?
Yes. Alt text is the primary way Google understands image content and is a major ranking factor for Google Images. It also serves as fallback text when an image fails to load.
