How does the tool decide where a sentence ends?
It splits on terminal punctuation (periods, question marks, and exclamation marks) followed by whitespace and a capital letter. Abbreviations and decimals are handled heuristically but very unusual punctuation may throw the count off.
What is a healthy average sentence length?
Plain-language guidance suggests 15-20 words per sentence on average, mixing in shorter sentences for rhythm. Consistently long sentences are a flag to break things up.
Does the tool count headings or list items as sentences?
Anything ending in terminal punctuation will be counted, while bare headings without punctuation usually will not. For mixed structured content, prose-only excerpts give the most meaningful averages.
